Privacy statement
Version 1.1 · effective from 18 October 2026
This is a translation of the Dutch privacy statement. If the two versions differ, the Dutch version prevails. Read the Dutch version
We like to keep things simple: guests don't need to create an account, we show no ads, we don't follow you with trackers and we don't sell data. Below you can read exactly which data PLAYTHIS uses and why.
1. Who we are
PLAYTHIS.eu, Zwaanwijk 9, 3334 GS Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 24340296, is the controller for the processing of personal data as described in this statement. You can email questions or requests about privacy to [email protected].
We process guest data so that we can provide the service to the DJ. At an event, the DJ decides what happens to requests, photos and messages, for example which photos appear on the screen.
2. Guest data
Guests use PLAYTHIS without an account. What we use:
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| A random code on your phone (device ID, no name or phone number) | So you can only vote once per song and we can limit misuse | Legitimate interest |
| Requests and votes | The list of requested songs for the DJ and the screen | Performance of the service |
| Your first name, if you fill it in | With requests, only the DJ sees it; with photos, shout-outs and reviews it may appear on the screen or on the DJ's page | Consent (filling it in is optional) |
| Photos with a caption | Shown on the event screen after approval by the DJ, and downloadable by the DJ | Consent |
| Messages and shout-outs to the DJ | So the DJ can read and answer them and, if they wish, put them on the screen | Consent |
| Reviews (stars and comment) | On the DJ's page, if the DJ has made reviews public | Consent |
Photos are resized on your phone and sent without location or other metadata. Photos the DJ does not approve are only seen by the DJ.
3. DJ data
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, DJ name, web address and password (stored only in encrypted form) | Your account and logging in; emails about your account | Performance of the contract |
| Events, settings, logo, colours and background photos | Providing the service | Performance of the contract |
| Billing details (name, company, address, VAT number, billing email) and invoices | Checkout and invoicing | Performance of the contract and legal obligation |
| Payment data: status of payments and a reference to your mandate at Mollie | Renewing subscriptions automatically | Performance of the contract |
| IP address and email address on login attempts | Protecting your account against break-in attempts | Legitimate interest |
| Messages you email us | Answering your question | Legitimate interest |
Your bank or card details never reach us: they are processed by Mollie.
4. Cookies and local storage
- Login cookie (pt_sess): only for DJs, to keep you logged in. Strictly necessary; it is deleted when you log out or close the browser.
- Language cookie (pt_lang): remembers whether you want to see PLAYTHIS in Dutch or English when you click NL or EN yourself. Functional, lasts one year and contains nothing else about you.
- Local storage on guests' phones: the device ID and, if you fill it in, your first name, so you don't have to type it again each time. You can clear this via your browser settings.
- We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The site's fonts are hosted on our own server.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell data. We work with the following parties, who only receive data insofar as necessary. We have a data processing agreement with the parties that process data on our behalf.
- Mijndomein (the Netherlands): hosting of the website and database, and email.
- Cloudflare: security and fast availability of the website. Traffic to playthis.eu passes through Cloudflare, so Cloudflare processes IP addresses. Cloudflare may also process data outside the EU, on the basis of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
- Mollie (the Netherlands): payments and mandates for DJs.
- Spotify and Apple (iTunes): when you search for songs, our server sends the search term to these services (without any data about you). Album covers are loaded directly from their servers; in doing so, they see your IP address.
We only pass data on to others if the law requires us to.
6. How long we keep data
- Event data (requests, votes, names, photos, messages): for as long as the DJ keeps the event. If the DJ deletes the event or the account, we delete everything from that event, including the photos.
- Reviews: for as long as the DJ's account exists; the DJ can hide comments.
- Account: for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (in your profile), we erase your account, events, requests and photos immediately, or at the end of the paid period if you still have a running subscription. They disappear from backups within 30 days.
- Invoices and billing details: 7 years, because Dutch tax law requires this.
- Login attempts: 1 day. Anti-spam data for requests: 30 days. Log of sent emails (address and subject): 12 months.
7. Security
The site only works over a secure connection (https). We store passwords only in encrypted form and sensitive keys encrypted, and only the PLAYTHIS administrator has access to the admin area. DJs can turn on two-step verification; for the admin area it is mandatory, and every admin action is logged. If something does go wrong, we follow a fixed data breach procedure and, where required, report it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority within 72 hours. If you notice something that isn't right, please email us. Read more on Privacy & security.
8. Your rights
You may ask us to access, correct, delete or transfer your data, and you may object to its use or withdraw your consent. To do so, email [email protected]; we will respond within one month.
Are you a DJ? Then you can also download your data and delete your account yourself, via Profile.
Are you a guest? Then please tell us which party it concerns and when you were there. Because we don't record guests' names or phone numbers, we can sometimes only find data with your help, or via the DJ. The DJ can also delete a photo or message of yours directly.
If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). Of course, we would like to hear from you first.
9. Changes
We may change this privacy statement when the service changes. The latest version is always on this page. We will notify DJs of important changes by email.
